RUST !! / Rust veins and Rust pitting
RUST !! / Rust veins and Rust pitting
Please use this to help ‘cost ‘ the full restoration of your Drum Machine. Rust can be dealt with, but we don’t and can’t just bond over and hope for the best !
Main pic and 1st reveal pic are the same synth, before and part way. Those bubble are deep pits on that Jupiter 8. It will only get worse.
So, RUST eh ?, it’s a challenge, but NOT impossible, even if we have to cut out and weld new metal in, it’s possible :)
Please email craig@sweetdiscrete.co.uk with any questions you may have but reading below can give you a good guide too.
Why is this separate ?
It helps us allow for the extra time and expenses needed.

Info:
For areas on the synth that display signs that rust has taken hold and eaten into the metal….
An acid bath goes a long way to neutralise and stop the rust but pitting and reigns that look like roots under the paint can ruin a beautiful restoration. Therefore it’s a lot more work to deal with than regular restoration.:
What are the Processes to deal with this ?
First, Acid bath with a phosphate coat afterwards ( you can purchase with your main restoration booking )
Sand a micro layer off top surface of metal all over the synth to keep even
Media blast
Epoxy Prime with extra coats ( on hot panel ) to influence the quicker flow of powder / primer into the pitting and deep scratch too !
Let the Primer Cure
Any obvious problem areas are ground back to metal, removing the primer and a metal paste that can withstand 200 degrees is used, or new metal inlay is added and ground back. Then, the continuation to flat by hand all of the Primer to a uniformed finish hopefully first time eliminating the pitting etc. This has now got to be done inside all areas and inner parts of holes cutouts heat vents etc, as Powder coat will not stick to cured primer.
Go to colour if all goes well, If not, go back to 4 until the finished flatted primer is showing no signs of pitting etc.
PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME IF THIS PROCESS IS NEEDED SO WE CAN GET IT RIGHT FOR YOU !
On a Classic car, if the door is rusty, you don’t need to do the whole car, a synth is usually one large panel and will be expected to look just as good, but with the added complexity of silk screened artwork over the paint / powder.
All above introduces more chances for things to go wrong and take a lot of extra time. This is the whole point behind Synthful Bodies, so you can but replacement shells etc.. Synthful Bodies here.
Please buy enough units to cover all areas on your synth. If the rust is only on a particular part such as Bender / Pitch Mod panel then one purchase is all you’ll need.
Please note, this service is ONLY avail if restoring a case.
