YAMAHA DX7 MK I Metal case restoration_ORIGINAL colours + Membrane replacement
Your Authentic DX7 MK I FULL metal case restoration service starts here !!
We have faithfully replicated all the artwork, so now can offer FULL metal case and FULL membrane fitting services. The case is stripped and re-painted coated then all NEW graphics are applied in paint as done originally. ( NOT STICKERS OR OVERLAYS )
Please note, cheeks are also included, plus THE FULL METAL CHASIS AND MOD WHEEL AREA ( see below * )
We even remake your factory serial number sticker - You choose how you want to write or stamp your serial number and then stick onto your freshly restored case.
Q: Is it a lot of money ?
A: Yeah, but quality is insane and factory looking. A rough tatty working DX7 these days needing a membrane also costs around £200 ish as at Qtr 2 2022, Spend circa £500 + postage and you’ve invested £700 ish, but what’s the synth worth though now ?
What we need -
* Upper and Lower case, please leave in the volume and data slider areas that are bonded inside, and don’t forget your hinges. ( no electronics / keybed or end cheeks please )
plus
Pitch & Mod wheel panel, and right of keyboard flat panel. We also need the power metal panel and breath control panel.
OPTIONS:
If you have flaky paint and surface rust, then we can treat the surface after we sand blast away the debris.
Please add the options for number of bad scrapes and dents, to ‘cost’ your restoration. If you contact craig@sweetdiscrete.co.uk with photos prior to ordering we can guide you and discuss options.
If there is quite a lot of rust, please SEE CASE option for an acid bath when ordering. We recommend this at all times regardless.

PROCESS:
This is a worldwide service.
However, when sending your synth case to us from outside the UK it is important to declare the export as ‘for repair’ and return. In most cases, depending on your countries customs / laws, you will not need to pay taxes / duties when we ship back to you. We will endeavour to do this for you but may need your assistance. If we encounter import charges and VAT, will will have to charge this onto you - If we are refunded these charges upon export from UK back to you, we will refund the import charges paid to you.
Please also allow for insurance, yes it’s the case in isolation but being sensible to cover, £5,000 typically costs around £70 at present.
Question : Why would you pay import charges ?
Answer: Some shipping couriers import differently. Also the value you place on you shell attracts 20% VAT in UK. One shipper who we find helpful is DHL who process “for repair” and return correctly ( this cannot be guaranteed at all times of course by Sweet Discrete ).
Summary:
You book and ship to us all the metal pieces to restore of the shell / inner brackets etc. No electronics please.
We add you to our Whattapp for updates and photos etc. You will be informed often as communication is key.
We replicate all artwork and text with same accuracy as our other products. We stencil the artwork over your synth and send update photos to you. There are subtle differences over a synths production. It maybe a line that’s longer, fatter or a design that’s different, so we don’t just use same artwork for all. If there are changes, we make them for your synth !
We match colours within 2 or 3% and get your approval. We then fully strip your old case before refinish / paint, then silk screen new artwork as original. Please note colours can be exact but still look fresher against 30+ year old artwork etc.
We then ship back to you fully restored for you to refit and invoice you for this.
You rebuild your synth as new again and enjoy it for years to come.
We encourage you to leave a review.
There is a value that this service will add to your synth and therefore It’s not just a cost, it’s an investment.
PLEASE NOTE : If your DX7 case is chipped , stained, faded, peeling and scratched, this is fine, but if badly scraped or dented, then tyou need to purchase options for them in Synth restoration menu.
Q: Can I customise the colours ?
A: Absolutely within reason, anything is possible, but please contact us first before purchase. Our own DX7 is expected to be seen at Synthfest 2022 - UK. ( please refer to mockup with a suggested custom panel )
If you want you’re own design, please see custom listing.
Please note, before you order: We can never predict when and where, and what is coming our way, and we are getting very busy, so it is increasingly difficult to quote times. If you need by a certain deadline, you MUST let us know. If we can do this it may be at a higher price. Otherwise, please allow min of 21 week turn around from receipt to shipping out. We will endeavour to be within this time but not at the expense of quality or accuracy, and will always keep you informed with Whattsap and pictures / videos.
We are expected to be closed every August to allow us to prepare for Synthfest UK and other shows too,re evaluate / re price £+/- streamline and improve this service. If you have work with us, it will not be dealt with in August to allow for this but will commence again in September. Existing work will NOT be affected by any price changes..
